Center d’Etudes Alain Daniélou – Harsharan Foundation
The Alain Daniélou Centre was set up after Alain Daniélou’s death in 1994 by the Swiss Foundation he created in 1970.
The five-hectare property comprises 5 independent buildings, the main one of over 800 m2 comprising living and dining areas and six small guest apartments. It is located in the countryside, 30 km from Rome and 2 km from the village of Zagarolo.
The house contains a large part of Alain Daniélou’s archives, an extensive photographic collection and a library. The Foundation has collaborated with UNESCO, the International Music Council (NGO), Casa Asia in Barcelona, the Cini Foundation in Venice, the Museum of Photography in Lausanne, the Ethnographic Museum in Berlin…
The layout of the house is so labyrinthine, as is the very name of the hill on which it stands, that we have decided, in order to find our way around, to give each apartment a noble title, without, of course, claiming to be luxurious enough for an emperor or a prince.
