But Europe soon failed to satisfy his deepest aspirations. A nomadic life began for him around the world, until his arrival in India, where the young jack-of-all-trades was welcomed by Rabindranath Tagore. Fascinated by the country, Alain Daniélou stayed for almost twenty years and became a Hindu. In Benares, he devoted himself to traditional music, and studied philosophy, Sanskrit and Hindi. In 1958, he returned to Europe, determined to reveal the true face of India.
