Deification of Eroticism – The Hindu Temple.

Alain Daniélou and Swiss photographer Raymond Burnier spent much time studying the sanctuaries of Khajuraho, Bhuvaneshvar and Konarak, as well as many lesser-known sites in Central India and Rajputana. They brought back an exceptional iconographic documentation of over 7,000 photographic negatives. It is these photographs that illustrate Deification of Eroticism –The Hindu Temple, in which Alain Daniélou introduces readers to the metaphysics of eroticism as experienced and represented in the sacred art and literature of India. He then leads them to penetrate the cosmogonic, symbolic and mystical dimension of the architectural and sculptural universe of Hindu temples, and to listen to the gods who populate these temples raised to their glory and their loves.
